5 Anime Characters Who Don't Like Being the Center of Attention

Most anime heroes and protagonists go to great lengths to prove that they are worthy of the attention of others. 

For that, they need to pay attention to themselves first. 

Their reasons for wanting to be in the spotlight are very diverse, ranging from winning the heart of the desired figure to just liking to stand out in the crowd.

Meanwhile, several other characters ensure that they will never be in the spotlight or the center of attention among people. 

So they try not to make a scene or anything that might attract attention. 

They are also willing if they have to change their actual personality and appearance. Here are five of them.

1. Kiyotaka Ayanokouji (Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu)

The protagonist Kiyotaka Ayanokouji from the anime Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu does look like an ordinary student. 

He was never cared for by others. 

However, he actually has a high intelligence that can make him the number one student in the school. 

He deliberately kept it a secret because he didn't want to become a student that would attract attention.

To hide his true self, Kiyotaka keeps it simple. 

He always shows a bored face and a flat stare. 

When choosing to display his clever manipulative tactics and mind games, he manages to surprise others.

2. Futaba Yoshioka (Ao Haru Ride)

Futaba Yoshioka is the antithesis of the expectations of most female protagonists in shoujo anime. 

She didn't want attention. 

Instead of doing things that are usually done by other girls to attract attention, she instead acts strangely so that every boy won't approach her, such as eating a lot, ignoring manners, to looking messy.

As the protagonist of the supernatural-comedy series Saiki Kusuo no Sai Nan, he has said how much he hates it when people focus their attention on him. 

He doesn't like the atmosphere when people obsess over him. 

He prefers it when he observes others, rather than him being observed.

Saiki may have several reasons behind his reluctance to be the center of attention.

In the series Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen, Ai Hayasaka works for the Shinomiya family. 

Basically, she is a personal maid for the daughter of the Shinomiya family, namely Kaguya Shinomiya. 

So, she also considers Kaguya as a true friend, and vice versa. 

Despite being around rich people, she remains a simple girl.

Hayasaka has always purposely underperformed in academics so that he doesn't become a bright student who stands out. 

Ranked 114th, she truly never worried about what fate would await when it came to applying to colleges. 

She thinks that working for the Shinomiya family has given her a stable job.
