Ayane Sakura: Her Journey in Anime and the Seiyuu Industry That Once Made Her Doubt!

 

In an exclusive interview on the Tokyo Speakeasy radio show, renowned seiyuu Ayane Sakura shared her excitement over the widespread acceptance of anime and the voice acting (seiyuu) industry. 

She expressed her joy in witnessing the significant changes over the past few years, where anime, once considered strange and often ridiculed, has now become a popular part of global culture.

Ayane Sakura recounted her own experience of deciding to pursue a career as a seiyuu. At that time, anime was still looked down upon by many people, including her own family. 

When she expressed her desire to become a voice actress, her family initially doubted her choice. 

"Back then, anime was seen as something weird and without a future. Even when I said I wanted to become a seiyuu, my family questioned whether it was the right decision," she recalled.

Anime was no longer considered a niche entertainment enjoyed by only a select few but had become a global phenomenon embraced by various groups, including public figures and celebrities. 

Ayane Sakura noted that this was a major achievement for the anime and seiyuu industry. 

"Now, we live in an era where anime is no longer seen as something strange. In fact, many people proudly admit to being anime fans," she said enthusiastically.

This shift has not only brought pride to fans but has also created immense opportunities for Japan’s creative industry. 

Anime has become one of Japan’s largest cultural exports, influencing various sectors, from fashion and music to global entertainment. 

Ayane Sakura feels relieved and proud to see how anime and the role of seiyuu are gaining more recognition. 

"This is an era where our hard work and dedication as seiyuu are finally acknowledged. Anime has become a part of many people’s lives, and that makes me very happy," she added.

With anime’s growing popularity, Ayane Sakura hopes that the industry will continue to evolve and inspire younger generations to pursue their dreams, no matter how big the challenges they may face. 

"Anime has proven that something once considered strange or impossible can turn into something extraordinary. So never hesitate to follow your passion," she encouraged.
